Steve James - National President 2023-2024
Welcome to my website, I am Steve James National President of 41 Club, the Association of ex-Round Tabler’s Club which is part of the Round Table family of clubs consisting of Round Table, Ladies Circle, Tangent and 41 Club.
41 Club was established in 1945 as a way for former members of Round Table to continue their friendships after retiring from Round Table at the age of 45, however since our AGM in April 2022 non Round Table members can be invited to join.
I embraced the opportunity to join Round Table in 1996 when myself, and my wife Karen embarked on new careers in South East Wales where I joined Pontypridd Round Table. In 2001 I became chair and was thrilled to win “Table of the year” for the varied programme and speakers which attracted many visitors from other clubs in the Area. In 2007, I took the chair’s chain once again and in 2009 I joined the Roundtable Area exec becoming Area Chair in 2012. I was also a member of the National Round Table Programme committee during 2012-14.
I am currently a member of two 41 clubs: Cambria and Llantwit Major. In 2015 I was elected to represent South Wales on the 41 Club National Council for 3 years, following which I was elected the National Fellowship Officer in 2018 until 2022 when I was elected Vice President at our AGM in Cardiff.
I am committed to ensuring that we have a varied programme of events to attract new members, that we continue to help Round Table grow and that we engage and listen to our current members, embracing new ideas that they may have.
As well as being a passionate 41 Club member, I am a keen walker and sail when I am able. I am a senior HR professional in NHS Wales, my wife Karen is a member of Barry and Vale Tangent and we have two children, Alex and Emily who have enjoyed many Round Table family events especially Emily who was fortunate to be selected to attend the 41 International Youth Ambassador Programme where she was hosted by South Africa 41 Club.
My chosen charities are Prostate Cancer UK and Prostate Cymru. As part of my fundraising activities, I will be hosting a charity ball on 1 st July at the Hilton hotel in Cardiff and I also have an online auction with some fantastic prizes on offer. I do hope that you will have a look at my auction site and make a bid or be able to join me at the ball, it will certainly be a great evening to remember raising money for a good cause.
My Presidential Liaison Committee of John Kilshaw (chair), Karen, Matt and Beth Bladon, John Bell, Sue Eyre, Mark House, Tracey Impey, Duncan and Trudy Kennedy, Wynn and Heather Parry and Roger Spensley and have been truly amazing and I can’t thank them enough for the hard work and support that they have given me so far.
